What is the SDG Youth Summit?

The Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Youth Summit is a one-day educational conference hosted by GIRA Local that builds local and international awareness for middle and high school students. It will be held on November 14th, 2026, at Georgetown University. It is based on the Sustainable Development Goals issued by the United Nations (UN).

What Topics will Students Discuss?

Students will discuss four of the sustainable development goals, their global impact, and how they manifest in the DMV community. The goals for SDG Youth Summit IV are:

GOAL 1: no poverty

GOAL 2: zero hunger

goal 4: Quality education

GOAL 6: clean water and sanitation

What will Students Do During the SDG Youth Summit?

Each student will participate in a workshop focusing on one of these goals. In these workshops, students will discuss these issues with Georgetown University professors, Georgetown students trained in youth international affairs education, and local advocacy groups. Guided by our student staff, they will also consider how they can get involved in advocacy and implement the SDGs in their local community.

Through discussions, speakers, and activities, students at the SDG Youth Summit will consider how international issues manifest in the local community, and how they can become changemakers in their schools, cities, and across the entire DMV area.
